Festive roadshow draws record representations

More than 4 000 motorists attended the popular one-stop shop, making use of the opportunity to get fines and warrants reduced.

While the numbers are still being collated, the 4 077 motorists made 27 921 representations during the first six days of the roadshow.

‘Many of these motorists can now take to the roads with peace of mind knowing they have resolved fines and warrants. It is troubling that most of these motorists had several fines, while many more did not take advantage of the roadshow,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

In the period July to September 2025, the Traffic Service recorded 815 613 offences – 11% higher than the corresponding period the year before.

‘The festive season is in full swing and roads are busier, with a disconcerting escalation in drunk driving and recklessness. This time of year is notorious for a rise in horrific accidents and as part of our festive season safety deployment, motorists can expect an increase in patrols, roadblocks, and vehicle checkpoint,’ added Alderman Smith.

This past week, the City’s enforcement departments arrested 380 suspects, including two men for money laundering.

Metro Police cameras detected a suspicious male person with a red and black backpack loitering at Burg Street and Green Market Square and nearby officers were alerted.

Officers discovered R74 040 cash in South African notes on the man and he explained he was
waiting for someone to exchange the money with.

The second suspect was also in the vicinity and was found with R97 900 in South African notes and an undisclosed amount of other currency in his possession.

Both suspects, aged  35 and 38, were arrested and detained at Cape Town Central SAPS.

Officers also confiscated a laptop and seven cell phones from the second suspect and it was booked in for further investigation. 

Law Enforcement
Officers made 229 arrests and issued 6 511 fines.
 
Traffic Services
Officers recorded  31 208 offences, impounded 223 public transport vehicles and executed 1 102 warrants of arrest.
 
Officers also arrested 45 suspects, which included 32 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 13 for other offences such as a stolen vehicle, assault of an officer and false documentation.

The PECC dealt with 1 667 emergency calls which included 96 assault related cases and 50 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents, 255 noise nuisance calls.
 
Residents and visitors are reminded to report suspicious and criminal activities to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700 with detailed information such as the time, exact address and a short description.
